The phenomenon has grown with the new global method of burning industrial and household waste in cement factories. Residues for which there are no recycling solutions have thus replaced traditional fuel. Romania’s cement factories can annually burn one million tons of household waste. The problem is that they burn anything, including strictly forbidden substances, and the toxins emitted into the atmosphere have dramatic effects on the health of the population, claim doctors and authorities.
