Synopsis

Cape Cod is famous for its pristine water, which provides pleasure and sustenance to all who live and visit there. But a dirty secret is lurking behind the beautiful views. For decades, human waste has been seeping out of Cape Codders’ septic systems and into the estuaries, endangering critical ecosystems, the shellfish industry and the tourism-based economy.
This problem isn’t isolated to Cape Cod. But some of the solutions might be found there. With input from scientists, Wampanoag tribe members and oyster farmers, The Watershed turns the lens on nature’s own methods for keeping water clean, while questioning the price of over-development.
